Maple Class

Mr Rowe is the class teacher for Maple class. We are a class of 26 Year 3 pupils. On a Tuesday morning, we also have Miss Barnes for French/Music and Mr Robinson for PE.

In our class, we follow the Year 3 National curriculum in addition to the Nottinghamshire syllabus for Religious Education.

In Maple class, we have daily Maths lessons using the Mastery of Maths approach. Through this approach, we are developing the use of resources and vocabulary to support us as we solve mathematical problems and explain our thinking. We are becoming more fluent and confident mathematicians, willing to apply our knowledge and skills to problem solving situations.

What are we learning?

Autumn Term

In Autumn Term, our class topic is ‘The Anglo-Saxons’ and our hook question is ‘Was Saxon Britain a dark time in British history?’ In this topic, we learn about the Anglo-Saxon invaders and the impact they have had on British history.

In science, our first topic is ‘Animals, including humans’. In this topic we learn about the human body, including the human skeleton and muscles, as well as the bodies of animals. The topic is followed by ‘Forces and magnets’ where we focus on different forces, such as gravity and magnetic force.

Spring Term

In Spring Term, our class topic is ‘Volcanoes, including Extreme Earth’ and our hook question is ‘Would you live next to a volcano?’ In this topic, we learn about how volcanoes erupt as well as the positives and negatives of living near a volcano.

In science, our first topic is ‘Rocks.’ In this topic we learn about the structure of the earth and different types of rocks, as well as what they can be used for.

Summer Term

In Summer Term, our class topic is ‘Ancient Egypt’ and our hook question is ‘What secrets does Ancient Egypt hold?’ In this topic, we learn about the history of Ancient Egypt. We focus on the lives of the Ancient Egyptians, the Gods and Pharaohs of Egypt and the Pyramids.

In science, our topic is ‘Plants.’ In this topic we learn about the lifecycle of plants and what is needed in order for them to grow. The topic is followed by ‘Light’ where we focus on what light is and its characteristics. We also look at the impact of the sun and staying safe in hot weather.
