Elm Class

Hello, Year One families!

We’re excited to have you in our class this year! It’s going to be a fun and exciting year of learning, and we can’t wait to see all the progress your child will make.

Meet Your Teacher

I’m Miss Farnsworth, and I’ll be your Year One teacher while Mrs Hall is on maternity leave. I’m excited to work with your child and support them every step of the way.

In my spare time I love spending time with my little girl, going to the seaside and all things Disney!

Phonics & Reading

We follow the Little Wandle Phonics Scheme to help children develop their reading skills. Please remember to send your child with their book and reading diary every day for group reading sessions.

Phonics Screening Test

In June, all Year One children will take the Phonics Screening Check to assess their progress. This helps us identify areas where extra support may be needed. More details here.

Maths

In Maths, we follow the White Rose scheme. This term, we’re focusing on Place Value—sorting, ordering, and counting objects.

Wider Curriculum & Continuous Provision

Our curriculum includes a variety of subjects like art, science, and history, all integrated into fun, hands-on activities. Lots of parents worry that after Reception children will lose opportunity to “play”. In Year 1,your child will have opportunities for independent learning and creative play, through continuous provision each day.

Outdoors and First hand experiences

We love being outdoors and often use our surroundings to enhance learning. We also have exciting trips planned to bring our lessons to life! Watch this space!

PE Days

Our PE days are Monday and Friday. Children can come to school in their PE kit on these days. This half term, we’ll be practicing multi-skills and ball skills.

Celebrating Learning

On Fridays, we celebrate our learning at the “Reach for the Stars” assembly. We also use Class Dojo to reward students with points for their school houses. Be sure to check for updates on Class Dojo!

Stay Connected

We use Class Dojo to share news, photos, and important updates. Please check it regularly to stay in the loop.

Let’s Have a Great Year!

We’re looking forward to a year full of learning and fun! If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch. Let’s make it a fantastic year!
