Phonics has got off to a great start in Willow Class. We are following the Letters and Sounds document, but using Read Write Inc resources to help learn phonemes and how to write them. So far we have learnt m,a,s,d,t & i. Ask your child to tell you the little phrase for each letter that helps them remember how to form the letter correctly. You could even practise writing them together on some work sheets we will be sending home this week. A great web link to help learn how to use ‘pure sounds’ (it’s changed since we were at school!) is:

A big welcome to all the new children and parents! The children had a fantastic first day, we enjoyed getting to know each other and playing with all the resources. We started our self portraits and even painted a few too. Ask your child about Geraldine the giraffe! Lots of photos coming soon…
Next Wednesday the 19th July is Willow Class trip to Perlethorpe Environmental Education Centre. We are really excited and looking forward to a brilliant fun filled day. Please remember to send children to school in comfortable trousers like joggy bottoms or leggings and trainers and please can they wear their Lambley school tops. As weather is always unpredictable please can you prepare for a variety of conditions, waterproof jacket, sun hat, sun cream and a water bottle!
Also on Wednesday the 19th July is the Willow Class Celebration Assembly. All parents and carers are warmly welcome to attend and we plan to start the assembly at 3.00pm. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Permission letters have gone home in book bags today for our exciting class trip to Perlethorpe. Please return them signed as soon as possible, along with your contribution, so we can secure the booking.
Today we had some parents join us for a phonics lesson and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you to all those who attended and made it a successful event. Watch this space for updates each week, on what we will be teaching in phonics, so you can practise with your child at home.
The super heroes have been out in force this week creating something fabulous for our wonderful Dads…watch out for something special in your child’s book bag.
This week we have been looking closely at the bean plants we have been growing over the past few weeks. We had a big discussion about what plants need to grow and measured how tall our beanstalks are so far.
We were also very lucky to have a visit from a Police Officer who showed us all their equipment and a real police car. We talked about what we wanted to be when we grow up…a lot of us would like to be in the force now.
