The Willow Class Sports morning was a brilliant success. Thank you so much to all the parents, families and friends who turned out yesterday to cheer on their fabulous children. We had so much fun with all the children joining in, working together and demonstrating their super  sporting abilities. The Lambley team were so very proud of all of them and want to say an even bigger well done to Trinity House (the green team!) who managed to score the most points making them the overall winners. Thanks also to those parents who helped with the setting up of tents and clearing the cut grass from the field, we really appreciate all your support.

We have had soooo much fun in the past couple of weeks with Royal Wedding prep and then our class trip yesterday.  The children have had a blast!  Here is a taster of what we have been up to…Have a great half term holiday!

This week in Willow we have been reading the book ‘Zog’ by Julia Donaldson and thinking about all the people who help us. The children have been sharing stories with each other about their families and friends, about doctors and nurses they have visited and other important people who continue to help them. The children have produced some excellent writing and we have been very pleased with their ideas and efforts. This Wednesday we walked around the school grounds looking at all  the different signs of Spring. We found buds and shoots, birds nests and minibeasts. The children loved talking about the seasonal change in their environment. We would really like to venture further into the Lambley Dumbles but need the support of parent helpers to be able to do this. If you are able to offer an hour of your time on a Wednesday morning after the half term holiday please come and let us know we would be thrilled to have your company. Next week is our class trip to Rushcliffe Country Park we are all very excited and have our fingers crossed for good weather.  Our word of the week this week is ‘challenged’.

A couple of weeks ago everyone in Willow Class planted a bean ready for our class growing competition over the half term holidays.  We learnt all about what plants need to survive and thrive and are closely monitoring the changes in our ‘Bean Diary’.  We will send the plants home over half term and ask for them to be returned on Wednesday 6th June.  On this day we will measure all the plants and give a prize for the tallest beanstalk.

This week’s word of the week is ‘famished’.

Willow class have had another lovely week. We have been learning about ‘Jaspers Beanstalk’ and planting our own seeds. The children are growing their own sunflowers and were very excited to take home the cress they have been growing. The children managed to complete their class tokens chart again this week which meant they got to enjoy another well deserved class treat. Due to rainy weather a visit to the park wasn’t possible but they did enjoy an ice cream and film back in the classroom. Next Wednesday, weather providing, we will be going on a ‘welly walk’. If you would like to join us please let us know your support is most appreciated.      Finally our word of the week is ‘Nervous’.

We hope you are looking forward to the Easter holiday and have lots of exciting plans!  As we are nearly in the Summer Term we have decided to start setting some maths and phonics homework to prepare the children for KS1.   You will be receiving a letter with all the details in due course.

This week we are very ‘egg-cited’ to be doing an Easter egg hunt, reading clues and finding the hidden treasure, along side learning about ‘time’ in our maths lessons.  We will also continue our work from our Church visit on Easter.  The children were so well behaved on our little trip and were a credit to the school.  Our word of the week is ‘proud’.

We wanted to let you know asap that they children will be attending a visit to Lambley Church this coming Wednesday.  We are sorry for the short notice, but unfortunately the date had to be changed.  We will be learning all about the history of the church and Easter.  We welcome any parent helpers who are able to join us for this trip leaving at 1.30pm on Wednesday.  If you are able to help please let the Willow Class team know.  A letter will be going out on Monday with all the details of the trip.  We hope to see you there!

Thank you so much to all the parents and carers who were able to make it to todays Willow Class Assembly. The children were outstanding and really enjoyed sharing all their learning with you, especially the ‘Dough Disco’! Thank you for all your support and help encouraging the children with their lines we really appreciate it and they performed liked true professionals.

Willow class have been busy all week rehearsing their assembly to perform for you all next Wednesday.  We are a mixed group of excited and nervous children! Therefore,  lines for those children speaking have been added into reading diaries and we would really appreciate your support in helping them to learn their parts. We are sure you will love our assembly and hope it gives you an insight into the world of Willow Class.  See you on 14th March at 9.15am.

This week we are learning to recognise teen numbers in Maths and count irregular groups of up to 20 objects.  We are learning to read tricky words ‘me, he, she, we, be, was & my and the phoneme /igh/ in phonics.  Please remember to practice these tricky words at home.  The list can be found at the back of the reading diaries.

Our word of the week is irritated.

Welcome back, we hope you all had a lovely half term break. We are continuing our topic ‘Going On A Journey’ and this half term we will be focusing on the key texts ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers and ‘Handa’s Suprise’ by Eileen Browne. We will be thinking about hot and cold climates and the different animals that live in these conditions. Please see the mind map and news letter for more information. In our PE session we have started to create a dance to the music from Lion King. We will be performing this at our class assembly on 14th March, we hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you then.

Last week Willow Class took part in the House Activity afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  Flamsted learnt about Japan (see if they can teach you counting to ten in Japanese!) Trinity were learning about the Arctic and created some amazing paintings, Pearson looked fetching in their African necklaces and Cromwell showed off their Faberge Eggs along with their new knowledge of Russia.

This week in Willow we are learning about Chinese New Year so ask your child about the food they have made and tasted so far.

Continuing our theme on emotions, the ‘Word of the Week’ is embarrassed.

A few weeks ago we had a visit from three ladies from the NSPCC. They led an assembly and explained to the children the right people to talk to if they aver felt worried about anything. This week the children did their sponsored keep fit activity. Early years and KS1 went into the hall first. We warmed up and then Mr Clarke led everybody with a fantastic dance routine to music. Every one worked really hard and had a great time.

Continuing with our vocabulary theme ‘Emotions’, our new word of the week is ‘enthusiastic’.

We hope you had a lovely Christmas and we would like to say a big thank you for all the kind words and gifts at the end of last term!  It was much appreciated.  The children have been enjoying the new topic so far – ask them what the ‘Naughty Bus’ has been up to each night time…

We have started word of the week to help children understand new vocabulary and we are focusing on emotions.  Last term we had joyful, miserable and bewildered.  This week’s word is ‘worried’.

Practicing for the Nativity is well under way and you would be so proud of your children for how hard they are trying with their fabulous singing and dancing!  Our stars are definitely sparkling!  Why not ask your child which is their favourite song? We look forward to welcoming you to the show next week and hearing which is your favourite song too.

This week, as the weather is getting colder, the children in Willow class were learning about hibernation. We went on our weekly ‘Welly Walk’ in the Dumbles and created little dens from twigs, branches and leaves for our class hedgehog puppet. The children built some amazing, sturdy structures that were perfect for the small creatures in the Dumbles to curl up inside and be beautifully comfortable and warm through out the cold winter months.

We were so lucky to have the Fire Service visit us on Monday and teach us all about fire safety.  We learnt how to ‘stop, drop & roll’ and got to explore the fire engine and use the hose.  It was so much fun!

This week Willow Class warmly welcomed Rose Mawer from Tesco. Rose came to talk to the children about ‘Farm to Fork’. It truly was a fantastic morning thoroughly enjoyed by all the children (and staff!). Rose had the children tasting lots of different foods, baking bread, making sandwiches and singing songs. We loved her so much that we have invited her to come back and see us again next year!

Today Anya was our child chosen to be on the Pride Vine.  She had been kind to others all week and her bucket was filled with pom poms from other children to show this.  Anya’s photo is now on our pride vine and she gets to take a certificate home to share her happy news.  We do this every week across the year so next week it could be your child!
