Oak class had a fabulous time at the National Holocaust Centre where we followed Leo on his journey into hiding and then we were able to talk to a survivor, who shared his particular story with us. The children were beautifully behaved and listened carefully to our guide, Debbie, asking her lots of really good questions.

Our reading week is well under way and we have received some excellent book reviews and recommendations. We now have on display in the classroom several extreme reading photographs, in some very extreme locations, pop in and take a look if you get the chance. We are visiting Colonel Frank Seely Academy on Wednesday to meet the children’s author Steve Bowkett, which we hope will inspire some of the children to become authors themselves.

This week we have been busy reporting on the events at the inn. We have considered what aspects of the poem a journalist would know and have written a newspaper article based on this information.

I hope you all had a very relaxing and enjoyable half term. What a busy week it will be this week with a visit to see some ex-pupils in their production of Grease at Colonel Frank Seely Academy, Halloween fun and fireworks for bonfire night.

I have shared the rest of the ‘Highwayman’ poem with the class today and we have had a fabulous discussion about the story within it, the feelings of the characters involved and the descriptive language used. In Maths we have been learning how to use long multiplication to solve problems with large numbers, missing numbers and word problems. Well done Oak Class for your continuing hard work.

We have been creative this week in Oak, working on our ceremonial blanket. We are learning to stitch and sew buttons, sequins and beads onto felt to make colourful patterns. Each design will be available to see at parent’s evening. I think you will be impressed with our skills.

What a busy start to the year. In Oak we have been busy learning how to keep our bodies healthy, writing a glossary of words from The Highwayman poem, looking in detail at some grammar terms and have begun our learning about the Jewish faith. The children achieved excellent scores in their first spelling test which shows their dedication and determination to ‘Reach for the Stars’ at all times. Keep up the hard work everyone.

What a fabulous start to the new school year. I have been really impressed by the children in Oak this week, you have settled in beautifully to the routines in Oak class and have already been working hard.

Rehearsals are well under way for our summer production of ‘What a Knight’. The children are working hard to learn their lines, the song lyrics and the dances. It looks like you’re in for a real treat, look out for tickets coming out soon.

Year 5 and 6 enjoyed our residential visit to Caythorpe last week. The children challenged themselves in all activities and lots of fun was had by all, especially when they tumbled into the water from their rafts! They worked really well in their teams and the staff were really proud of them as representatives of Lambley Primary School.
