A big warm welcome back to Maple Class. It is lovely to be back after a fun filled week off  and to see the children ready to continue with their learning. This half term we are becoming journalists and researching the events that occurred on that strange Tuesday evening trying to find answers to the questions Who was involved, What happened, Where it happened and Why the frogs started to fly. Keep a look out for our final newspaper report and our green screening.

I would also like to say a huge welcome to Ashton who has joined Maple class at the start of this half term. He has settled in beautifully into our class and Maple have made him feel very welcome.

Maple class have been working very hard this week! I am extremely proud of each and everyone of  them with lots of house points and stickers being handed out. This week we have been adding the Mod roc to our 3D frogs, it has been very fun and very messy – but I am sure that the outcome will  be more than worth it. We have finished our place value block in maths and will be moving onto Addition and Subtraction. The children have made some excellent progress in their understanding of maths, their reasoning skills and fluency. I couldn’t be a happier teacher! Please say a big well done to your children! In English we are still preparing to write our Tuesday stories. We are building up to the finished piece of work through looking at and applying new skills such as adding Conjunctions, varied sentence openers and adjectives to our work.

This week in Maple class we have been continuing to learn all about different rocks. We have looked at how the different rocks are formed. Using chocolate we were able to see how sedimentary, igneous and Metamorphic rocks form. Through using heat and pressure we could discuss the formation of rocks and link this to the rock cycle.

We have also created some fabulous painting in the style of Monet. Practising the art of colour mixing. Have a look at some of our creations we are very proud of them!

What a fantastic week! Well done Maple Class.

This week Maple class have been working hard on our place value in maths. We have been using lots of resources to help us get a good understanding of what we mean by place value. Our Water topic is well underway. We are yet to look at our Tuesday text but we have been making lots of predictions about what we think the book will be about and using adjectives to describe the settings of the text. This week were lucky enough to go on our school trip to Magna Science Park. We were able to answer some of our challenge questions based on our Water topic – such as “Why does water go up only to come back down again?” Ben Year 3. The water pavilion enabled the children to explore the Water system in a fun and creative way.

Watch this space as next week we are learning how rocks are formed through using chocolate! Yummy!

A lovely warm welcome back to Maple Class. I hope that you have all had a fantastic summer holiday and are all refreshed ready for a busy and fun filled year!

This half term we are looking at Water and asking ourselves the question ‘Where does water come from?’ We will be looking at the Water cycle and exploring this in action during our class trip to the Magna Science Park. We have lots of art planned for this half term too – making 3D frogs, lily pads and also looking at and recreating the famous Water Lilies painting by Monet.

In English we are looking at the text Tuesday by David Wiesner. We will be creating our own newspaper articles following on from a news conference taking on roles and colleting all of our evidence to solve the Tuesday mystery. We will also be creating fictional stories based on the text.

As a class, in addition to our weekly Stars of the Week I will be looking for my own Hard Worker award.to take home a trophy for the weekend to then bring back to have pride of place on your desk for all to see!

We are going to have a fantastic year with lots of fun and challenge! I can’t wait to get started.

We have already had lots of fun during induction. Have a look at our buildings we made to keep the 3 little pigs safe. We had to test them against the force of us all trying to blow them down.

What a fantastic day we all had at the Gedling Country Park. Working with the rangers finding out about bees and how they make their honey, looking at historical mining artefacts from the past and going on a mini beast hunt . We then met up with 2 other classes to have a giant picnic before having fun on the park! A great day enjoyed by all!

This week we have been working hard in preparation for our class assembly on Wednesday 5th July. We hope you are able to come along and see our hard work. We will be talking about where Lambley is in the world and we will be showing off our fabulous persuasive leaflets encouraging people to visit our wonderful village. This week we were particularly excited when Isla told us all about the Fairy doors that were spotted in the Lambley Dumbles. I’m sure this will lead on to some amazing narrative writing which will be completely child led.

This week we continue with the topic of ‘Our Wonderful World.’ We have been starting to think about the village we live in or go to school in and ask ourselves the question ‘What do we love about Lambley?’ We had 2 special guests visit our class and take us on a Lambley trail around our village telling us lots of exciting historical information about our village. We learned about the famous Dumbles , the Medieval water pond, what Education was like in 1907, Ralph Cromwell and his fortune and much more. After our trail we went back to class to experiment writing with the old fashion Quill pens, it was great fun. Look out for our future work developing our own Lambley trails for children and persuasive leaflets encouraging people to visit Lambley village. We may even get some of our work published on the Lambley website.

What a fantastic start we have had to the Summer term! It is great to be back with Maple class. This term we have been working on our narrative writing in preparation for our final assessed piece of writing. We have been writing adventure stories about a Magic Pebble, I am excited to see how much imagination our children have got!

It has been a busy start to the term, with lots of fun and exciting activities happening. We have spent the first couple of weeks getting to know each other. I have been learning about the children’s existing routines so there are not too many changes for them.

Next week we will be continuing with our class topic ‘Our Wonderful World’. We are going on trails around Lambley looking at what we love about our village, we are working with local artists from the Gedling Country park creating a memorial statue before finishing our topic with a class treat enjoying the Gedling Country Park.

Keep your eyes open for the exciting work we will be doing.

After 9 months of maternity leave Mrs Shardlow is back. After half term she will be back into Maple class full time! We are all very sad to see Mrs Hall leave, she has been a fantastic teacher in Maple and the children have been very lucky to have had her as their teacher. The children have made super progress as Mrs Hall made their learning fun. We would all like to say a huge Thank you to Mrs Hall for all of her hard work! Lets look forward to another fun filled second half to the Summer term.
